The aim of the Project

The aim of the project is to conduct research on rapid and cost effective manufacturing of high performance composite components. The need for new technology in this field is increasing, driven by the ambition to decrease the environmental impact from the transport sector through lightweight design. The speed of development is however high and the competitiveness of the industry is largely governed by the cost effectiveness of the manufacturing methods.

In the project the automotive industry's knowledge on automation and produceability will be combined with the aeronautical industry's experience from design and manufacturing of composite components. The work in this project aims to raise the technology readiness levels for vital manufacturing processes as well as identify and demonstrate concepts for rational manufacturing of car components.

The project is divided into three phases, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Demo-phase. The phases are planned to be slightly overlapping and to reach demonstration within 3.5 to 4 years. Currently phase 1 stretching to December 2012 is approved and funded.
