Workshop: LIGHTer Product Optimization

LIGHTer Product Optimization is a competence network in Sweden on the use of simulation and optimization for product development. On the seminar will address two topics. Topology optimization has been used in industry for more than 15 years to develop better products in a shorter time, but it still lacks a wide spread use. One blocker is the issue on how to transfer the result from the topology optimization to a solid CAD geometry.

The objective with this topic is to see and discuss different solutions. We feel that there does not exist one solution to this question. For the user of topology optimization there are the possibilities and limitations of the software in addition to the possibilities and limitations of the CAD system used. Also, how does it all work with the process for product development which is followed? We think that the solution can be found in the cooperation between users of topology optimization, suppliers and the academy.

Engineering is currently undergoing a paradigm shift as the product, process, and technological capabilities and complexities are exploding, while the design times are shrinking. One such paradigm shift is for the use of engineering simulation. Moving from only using simulation as virtual testing for verification to using simulation for design exploration. Here topology optimization is one example. 

But how does the engineering curricula look like today? What is the need from industry? In the second part of the seminar we will hear from the academia on what is taught in the area of product optimization. How well does it match the need from industry? How can we together improve this situation?

On the seminar we will hear presentations from users in the industry, suppliers of topology optimization software and the academy. We would like to invite you to present on the seminar. We are also inviting other software suppliers. The seminar will be held on-site at Rise in Mölndal outside Göteborg on the 29-30 of November, from lunch to lunch.
