Amir Baghdadchi, Högskolan Väst: Additive manufacturing of duplex stainless steels
Additive manufacturing (AM) provides new opportunities to fabricate near-net-shape components with a low waste of material, customized features, tailored properties, and complex geometries. Laser Metal Deposition with Wire (LMDw) is an AM technique in which the wire is melted with a laser beam and deposited layer-by-layer (bead-by-bead) to build a 3-dimensional (3D) component. Implementation of AM in the fabrication of duplex stainless steel (DSS) components expands the functionality of these alloys and brings many benefits to industries. In AM of DSS, however, the inhomogeneous microstructure, unbalanced ferrite and austenite fractions, and formation of nitrides and secondary austenite are common problems. This study investigates the microstructures and mechanical properties of additively manufactured components by LMDw after deposition and also subsequent heat treatment.
