Tribologi i varmformning av aluminium

Project idea

The objective of the project is to increase the robustness and predictability of hot aluminium forming by significantly raising the level of understanding regarding the tribological phenomena occurring in the evaluated processes, creating best practice guidelines and developing and implementing advanced friction modelling into forming simulations. The generated knowledge and methodologies will be applicable to other hot forming processes as well as the general development of friction models for various processes and applications.

The project consortium has representation from all relevant parts of the value chain concerning hot forming of aluminium as well as relevant industrial applications. Many of the project partner organisations work with applications within different types of industries and thus have the possibility to implement and spread the results across industries.
The individual project partners will raise their level of competence and the collaboration between project partners will be strengthened. This will increase the competitiveness of the value chain in total as well as the individual partners.

Project Contribution to the LIGHTer Program Goals

A successful project will enable robust hot forming of complex high-performance aluminium components, reduced and more predictable tool maintenance, and improved surface quality of aluminium parts. This will lead to weight reductions by enabling hot formed aluminium to replace steel in many cases where steel now is used because of its formability which brings a weight saving potential of up to 50 % depending the case, and 35 % on average.
