“Lightweight for Future Mobility” renewed 2026
The German-Swedish lightweight initiative “Lightweight for future mobility” aims to strengthen cooperation on lightweight technologies, an area that is central to both the green transition and the development of future mobility.
Lightweight constructions account for around four percent of Germany’s GDP and have great growth potential, while around half of Swedish exports depend on competitive lightweight solutions. There is therefore a clear common interest in further deepening the cooperation.
On behalf of the German Ministry of Industry and Energy (BMWE), the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce is running the project, which will create opportunities for German suppliers of lightweight solutions to establish themselves in Sweden and find synergies with Swedish companies and research environments. The project includes workshops, expert discussions, study trips and matchmaking activities, with a focus on small and medium-sized companies in the automotive, aviation, space and maritime sectors as well as relevant Swedish players.
Originally, the project was planned to last for one year. Due to However, due to the great interest and positive developments, the project was extended for another year and will now run until autumn 2026. This means that the participating companies will receive significantly longer support to be able to expand their market opportunities in Sweden in a sustainable way.
A particular highlight during the extension year will be new activities in Skåne, Östergötland and Norrland as well as a visit by Swedish players to Hannover Messe. The extension of the project makes it possible to deepen existing collaborations, carry out more targeted activities and strengthen the connection between German and Swedish innovation environments – which in turn lays the foundation for long-term business, joint projects and a more competitive lightweight sector in both countries.
